Harrisburg – PHC4’s new Cardiac Procedures Report, released today, now includes data for six different types of cardiac procedures performed in Pennsylvania hospitals from January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2022. The report displays hospital-specific volume and outcome information, as well as Medicare fee-for-service figures and average hospital charges.
Barry D. Buckingham, PHC4’s Executive Director, said “We know adding the surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) with coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) procedure to this report provides further value to stakeholders when assessing opportunities to prioritize resources.” He added that PHC4 sees this as serving its mission to provide fact-based reporting to better inform decisions for all Pennsylvanians. The Cardiac Procedures Report can assist consumers and purchasers in making more informed health care decisions, while also serving as an aid to stakeholders in highlighting opportunities for quality improvement and cost containment.
The six cardiac procedures reported are CABG, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for patients who had a heart attack, PCI for patients who did not have a heart attack, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), SAVR, and, newly added, SAVR with CABG.
PHC4 welcomes you to freely access the Cardiac Procedures Report, available now at phc4.org. PHC4 aims to provide fact-based information to help communities, providers, and policymakers prioritize resources and make informed decisions about health care in Pennsylvania.
PHC4 is an independent council formed under Pennsylvania statute (Act 89 of 1986, as amended by Act 15 of 2020) in order to address rapidly growing health care costs. PHC4 continues to produce comparative information about the most efficient and effective health care to individual consumers and group purchasers of health services. In addition, PHC4 produces information used to identify opportunities to contain costs and improve the quality of care delivered.
