HARRISBURG – July 19, 2023 The Cardiac Procedures Report released by Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4) examines the performance of Pennsylvania acute care hospitals for five types of cardiac procedures. Based on adult patients discharged from Pennsylvania’s acute care hospitals from January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2021, this report includes results for the following cardiac procedures: coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for patients who had a heart attack, PCI for patients who did not have a heart attack, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), and surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). Statewide trends and statistics are also examined. In depth information can be found in the individual reports for each cardiac procedure. See www.phc4.org for the full report.
“This report studies mortality, readmissions, and how long a patient stays in the hospital after surgery, for five common cardiac procedures,” said Barry Buckingham, PHC4’s Executive Director. “This report can help be a guide to patients with cardiac disease and their families” added Buckingham.
